5 months

Happy 5 months to me! I had a bit of an off day on my 5 mo. birthday. I had a runny nose all last week, and then Mom and Dad thought I got an ear infection so they took me in to see the pediatrician. I had spent the last two nights sleeping in the car seat in the crib. Turns out I was fine, just had a little bit of fluid in my ears. It could have been a lot worse. Other milestones:

• I weigh 13 lbs, 10 oz. Only a 6 oz. weight gain from last month, although it feels like I gained a lot more.
• I've mellowed out. There's been a few times where I've gone through an entire day without crying! And I can actually sit quietly for extended periods of time without melting down. Maybe it's cuz Mom finally figured out how to burp me properly so I don't have gas pains as often. But I definitely don't cry or fuss as much as I used to.
• I can roll over! From my tummy position to my back. It doesn't even seem like a roll - more like I'm twisting my body to one side and then flopping over.
• I'm finally free of the swaddle. I kept fighting my arms out of the swaddle at night, so Mom and Dad finally gave up and let me sleep unswaddled. It took some getting used to. I kept flailing my arms around and waking myself up, and I had numerous scratches on my face to show for it. But at least I can access my fingers now and suck on them til I fall asleep.
• Sleep training was tough this month. I had some great nights where I woke up and was able to put myself back to sleep, and some not-so-great nights where I woke up every 2-3 hours. I still haven't slept for more than 8 straight hours since that one time when I was 10 weeks old. At least I'm able to sleep without my pacifier most of the time.
• I love to smile, babble and laugh. Check out that winning smile on my face in the photo above. My favorite things to say are "ah-goo", "guuhhhh", and "huh-HUH."
• I'm starting to play with toys. My favorite is the Winkel, which I'll grab and put in my mouth. I also like grabbing my Ring o' Links.
• My hair's grown long enough that my mohawk's flattened out. Hey that's worthy of a bullet point!
