- Kaitlyn caught her first cold/ear infection. It sucked. The poor baby had a runny nose, congestion, phlegm, cough, the works. She couldn't lie flat at night because she couldn't breathe, and ended up sleeping in her carseat in the crib all week. At the end of the week we took her to see the doc, who confirmed she had an ear infection as well. She's recovering and on antibiotics now. But that was a really hard week for all of us.
- She can roll all the way over! Before she could only roll from tummy to back, but now is rolling from back to tummy. It happened so suddenly! I actually first watched her do this on the monitor while she was sleeping in her crib. It freaked me out because I'm so paranoid about her sleeping too close to the bumper or with her face down on the mattress. Anyway, now that she can roll she moves all over the place in her crib. Sometimes I'll wake up and check the monitor and see that she's rolled out of the camera's line of vision, which again freaks me out.
- We started Kaitlyn on rice cereal yesterday. The first meal was pretty uneventful. I don't think she was hungry in the first place so when we put the spoon in her mouth she just let the cereal dribble down her chin. She was pretty disinterested and eventually got tired of sitting in the Bumbo and started arching her back until we took her out.
- We think she's teething. Kaitlyn lost her appetite two days ago at day care - she ate 2 oz. all day! It happened again the next day and I read that loss of appetite is a sign of teething. I don't feel anything sharp when I feel her gums, but she is starting to chew on everything, especially Sophie the Giraffe, which she had absolutely no interest in just a week ago. She's also been a lot fussier at night, though I don't know if that's because she's been sick or because she's started rolling.
With all these developments going on there's plenty of reasons why Kaitlyn hasn't been sleeping well at night. Especially because of the rolling thing - she keeps shifting in her sleep and then waking up pissed off and crying because she's not in the same position she fell asleep in. Sometimes I'll wake up and see her on her tummy, holding her head up and just crying because she can't figure out what to do next. Also, since she hasn't been eating enough during the day, I'm back to waking up and feeding her every time she wakes up, about every three hours. I guess sleep training has been put on hold for now until we feel she's comfortable enough to put herself back to sleep on her own.
