Two Month Update

I'm two months old already! We won't lie - this month was tough. Mommy and Daddy thought it was supposed to be easier the second time around, but just like my sister, I am one colicky baby. We're talking constant crying, screaming, arching back, and overall fussiness for hours at a time. Guess my newborn phase is over already. On a positive note, I've started to show my first smiles this month! Mommy and Daddy can't stay mad at me for very long.

  • I am 12 lbs, 14 oz. and measure 22 inches long: That's the 75th percentile for weight and 20th percentile for height! I am growing so fast!
  • Fussiness: For a few weeks it seemed like every waking moment I was crying or fussing. It was worse in the evenings and would take hours for me to calm down. Mommy and Daddy would take turns handing me off and trying to console me and by the end of the night when I finally fell asleep we would all be exhausted. As an extra measure Mommy eliminated all dairy and soy from her diet in case my fussiness was gas related. It actually seems to have helped a little. I still have my "witching hour" in the evenings where I'm crying/fussy until bedtime, but at least the screaming has become slightly less frequent.
  • Sleep: My sleep schedule has become pretty consistent and I can sleep for up to four hour stretches. We don't have much of a bedtime routine yet. Since I'm so fussy at night it's pretty much based on when I can finally calm down, and this usually happens around 9 or 10 pm. Daddy has mastered the art of soothing me with a pacifier while the hair dryer is turned on, then swaddling me and transferring me to the Pack n' Play. After that I'll sleep for a good four hour block, followed by a three hour block, followed by a one to two hour block. I usually go back down pretty easily after each feeding but by 4am I start to complain a little. Since Mommy is too tired to deal with me, she'll put me next to her in bed for the last few hours of sleep. Naps are taken everywhere from the car seat to the swing to Mommy's arms - I will nap anywhere but my own crib!
  • Things I like: noise from hair dryers, classical music, bouncing on the big exercise ball
  • Things I hate: being put down! I insist on being held all the time, whether I'm sleeping or awake. I'm a little bit easier in the mornings, but by late afternoon, don't even think about putting me down or I will complain - loudly.
  • Tummy time: I get a few minutes of tummy time every day, and am able to lift my head 45 degrees. Woohoo!

How you doin?
